Netflix x UNESCO
Creating opportunities for African emerging filmmakers
Type of Work
Netflix and UNESCO have partnered to launch an innovative short film competition on ‘African Folktales, Reimagined’ across Sub-Saharan Africa. Winners of the competition will be trained and mentored by industry professionals and provided with a US$75,000 production budget to create short films that will premiere on Netflix in 2022 as an “Anthology of African folktales”. Dalberg Media and Dalberg Advisors worked together to create the competition design and to oversee evaluations.
More than 4,500 applications were received from 22 Sub-Saharan countries, allowing emerging filmmakers a place to share ideas for the future of African storytelling.
